HOW TO PREPARE FOR A MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT

Big congratulations Mommy! You made the big decision and you decided to invest in yourself and create the most amazing portraits for you and your baby to cherish forever! Amazing! And now it’s time to get ready for that big Photoshoot and maybe its even your first professional photoshoot ever!

Here are the things I like to discuss with my clients during our consultation Phone Call/Facetime/Zoom:
  1. We all get a bit nervous when it comes to being photographed by a professional photographer in a professional studio, especially when it’s the first time. It’s completely normal and it is my job as your photographer to make you feel at ease and make you feel more and more confident as we progress with our photoshoot.
  2. In my mind our photoshoot starts with your Hair and Makeup, which you can do at my studio with one of my amazing makeup artists, or with another makeup artist of your choice. The most important thing is that you feel beautiful and self confident when you step in front of the camera - and if you makeup artist made you feel and look amazing that’s a big win!
  3. Don’t forget your Manicure and Pedicure when preparing for your photo-session. My style is very timeless and elegant, so nude colors and/or French Manicures always work great!
  4. I also ask my clients to bring a well fitting nude and black strapless bra as well as a nude and black thong, because I love to work with draping and see through silk fabrics, that are just so beautiful to emphasize your beautiful belly.
  5. If you are inviting your partner to join the Photoshoot, it’s good to think about what they might want to wear. To keep things simple it always looks great when a guy wears jeans with a button up White or Black Dress shirt. Most of the time I photograph my couples bare feet. But if you would like to wear a more formal gown then beautiful dress shoes for him and her would be great.
  6. If you are inviting your child or children to participate, they will also need to wear something that would match the style you are going for. With my clients I like to discuss their vision well before our photo session so that we have enough time to acquire the right outfits for your first born(s).
  7. Maybe it goes without saying but try to get a good nights sleep and lots of hydration before your photoshoot, so that your beautiful mama skin is even more glowing. But if nerves or kicking baby got in the way of a good nights sleep, like it did for me when I had my own maternity shoot, rest assured that in retouching we can fix those minor details, like dark under eyes, very easily.
